This year CES was huge, attracting over 150,000 attendees, with over 20,000 products being demonstrated by over 3,000 organisations. One of the largest scientific magazines in the world, Scientific American featured the Golden-i headset computer in its Annual Gadget Guide- it’s picks for the ‘coolest tech of the year’! We certainly agree!

It featured the following descripton:
Kopin Golden-i Headset Computer: Kopin, Inc.’s Golden-i is a head-mounted computer that runs a version of the Windows operating system and can communicate with any operating system that supports Bluetooth and wi-fi. The voice-activated Golden-i can access desktops, laptops and other computers via the Web or by using remote desktop access software from GoToMyPC or Citrix. The headset computer features a one-centimeter display screen that can be adjusted to be used just a few centimeters in front of and below either the left or right eye. It can also be worn with eye- or safety-glasses, hard hat or helmet. Due to the display’s proximity and resolution, however, it appears to wearers as if they are looking at a 38-centimeter screen. Golden-i features a built-in camera.

The author of the piece in question found the unit easy to use and intuitive, reporting that “It may be hard to picture people walking around with computers on their heads now, but we’re already halfway there with Bluetooth earpieces — and it’s easy to see the benefit of not having to use your hands to get to your data”.

Jon Fan, President of Kopin, said:
“The problem with an iPhone 4S is, it’s still a touchscreen-centric device, trying to use voice,” he said. “That’s why you see problems. For us, we started with voice — no touchscreen — and therefore you have a much more pleasant experience”
